Air France-KLM’s cargo traffic slumped 6.7 percent in October from a year ago as the carrier continued to trim its freighter operations amid weakening global demand.
Capacity was down 7.1 percent, which improved the load factor by 0.3 percentage points to 66.6 percent, while average yields declined from October 2011.
All routes posted lower cargo traffic, with the Americas down 4.9 percent on 3.7 percent less capacity; the Asia-Pacific region posted a 9.9 percent decline on a 13.6 percent reduction in capacity.
The steady monthly declines in Air France-KLM’s cargo business — traffic shrunk 6.6 percent in September — driven mainly by reduced freighter volume at the French carrier, contrasts with continued resilience at British Airways, which increased October shipments by 4 percent.
