Falling demand in the Asia-Pacific region pulled cargo traffic at Air France-KLM down 2.7 percent in July.
Asia-Pacific traffic for the European carrier group fell 2.9 percent from the same month a year ago, and the Asia business also tumbled 6.8 percent from June as Europe's troubled economy dampened demand for Asia exports.
The European carrier kept capacity almost flat compared to last year, adding 0.6 percent of freight space, but the cargo load factor fell back 2.1 percentage points to 64 percent.
The carrier’s Americas cargo traffic decreased 1.6 percent, as its capacity grew 1.5 percent and its cargo load factor fell 2 percentage points to 64.4 percent.
Out of all Air France-KLM’s regions, traffic in Africa and the Middle East fell the sharpest, down 6.3 percent. Tonnage shrank 8.7 percent, while the regions’ cargo load factor rose 1.6 percentage points to 61.3 percent.
