The Federal Aviation Administration and the European Aviation Safety Agency have ordered Boeing Co.’s 787 Dreamliner grounded in the wake of battery fires, The Wall Street Journal reports.
All Nippon Airways had grounded its own fleet after smoke was observed on one of the jets in flight, and Japan Airlines had followed suit. The Wall Street Journal said that airlines in Chile, Poland and India have also pulled the aircraft from service temporarily.
Boeing has already drafted interim safety measures for FAA review. In an official statement, Boeing Chairman, President and CEO Jim McNerney said the company “is working around the clock with its customers and the various regulatory and investigative authorities” to get the airliners back in service.
