Nashville, Ind.-based transportation forecaster FTR Associates’ Trucking Conditions Index started to rise significantly in September as expected, recording a 65 percent increase from August to 9.6, before declining to 7.9 in October.
The Trucking Conditions Index is a compilation of factors affecting trucking companies, with any reading above zero indicating a positive environment for truckers.
FTR predicts a continued rise in the index until it reaches double-digit readings in late spring, although the market will be responding to tightening conditions in 2013 with increased capacity utilization caused by solid freight growth and the new hours-of-service rules taking effect in June.
