A third-party freight broker urges shippers in the Northeast to call with plans to close operations or reschedule freight deliveries during Hurricane Sandy.
Tucker Company Worldwide, Cherry Hill, N.J., said Monday it is working with shippers to reschedule shipments across the country as the massive storm slams the East.
“Many customers in the Middle Atlantic and New England states have closed Monday and Tuesday,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement Monday.
The hurricane is expected to knock out power in many areas, possibly for days, which could make freight delivery and truck fueling difficult after the storm.
Some areas may only be open to emergency relief shipments for several days after the storm. Aid is already moving toward the region.
Flooding and road closures may delay trucking throughout the Northeast, especially traffic moving through states such as Pennsylvania.
