Albania Implements ATA Carnets

Flag of Albania. The Republic of Albania has implemented the international ATA Carnet system, which allows for the temporary duty- and tax-free export or import of goods for up to one year. Albania is the 72nd country to join the system.

“Albania’s implementation of the ATA Carnet system signals to the world that the country is open for business,” said Peter Bishop, chair of the ICC WCF World ATA Carnet Council, in a written statement.

ATA Carnets remove the need for exporters to provide customs authorities with the otherwise necessary guarantees required for goods to cross borders, operating like “passports for goods.” The system is administered by the Brussels-based World Customs Organization and the International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation.
