In fiscal year 2011, the cargo and vessel activity at the Port of Mobile contributed an estimated $22.3 billion in economic value to the state of Alabama, according to an economic impact study prepared by John C. Martin Associates, a maritime industry economic consulting firm.
Of that value, $18.7 billion is directly tied to the Alabama State Port Authority’s public terminals.
The federal government calculated that between 55 million and 65 million tons of cargo move through the port annually.
