The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is banning tractor trailers, car-pulled trailers, house trailers and motorcycles from many New York City bridges because of the high winds from Hurricane Sandy.
The port agency issued the ban at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, effective immediately and until further notice.
The ban applies to vehicles of these types on the George Washington Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Goethals Bridge and Bayonne Bridge.
The ban on tractor trailers crossing the George Washington Bridge effectively interrupts large truck traffic on Interstate 95 for the next day or so until the hurricane passes through the regions.
Other vehicles are restricted to 35 mph.
