Bonney to Address ILA Issues at Inland Ports Conference

Joseph Bonney, the JOC senior editor who has been leading coverage of the acrimonious East and Gulf Coast longshore labor negotiations, will participate in a session on the topic at the upcoming JOC Inland Ports Logistics Conference in Oak Brook, Ill., on Sept. 5-6.

Given the intermodal focus of the conference, goods moving by rail from seaports to inland ports such as the CenterPoint Properties Ellwood/Joliet campus outside Chicago would be impacted by any East and Gulf Coast port disruption.

Negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association and United States Maritime Alliance broke down on Aug. 22. ILA President Harold Daggett told the JOC, “It looks like we’re going to have a strike.”

Bonney has covered the ILA for several years and has attended recent negotiations. He moderated a session at the JOC’s TPM conference in Long Beach this past March where Daggett first raised the possibility of a strike.
