The Prince Rupert Port Authority is preparing for the construction launch of the Ridley Island Road, Rail Utility Corridor in British Columbia, CFTK-TV reports.
The $90 million project represents investments from the governments of Canada and British Columbia, Canadian National Railway and Prince Rupert Port Authority.
The corridor will be a shared piece of infrastructure, which will enable the construction of new terminals on Ridley Island, according to Michael Gurney, the port’s manager of corporate communications.
“This is an enormous deal for Prince Rupert,” Gurney said in a written statement. “In fact, this is the largest construction project to take place in Prince Rupert since the opening of the Fairview container terminal in 2007.”
Excavators, dump trucks, representatives of the construction team and the contractor for the project will be in attendance tomorrow, March 8, at the port's Interpretive Center for the start of the project.
