The Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands reported cargo throughput was 332.6 million tons during the first nine months of 2012, an increase of 1.7 percent from last year’s 326.9 million tons during the same period.
Container volume from January to September was 94.8 million tons, also increasing 1.7 percent from 93.2 million tons in 2011.
Incoming container volume was 46.1 million tons, down 1.4 percent year-over-year. Outgoing container volume was 48.7 million tons, jumping 4.8 percent from last year.
There was a slight drop of 1.1 percent in outgoing 20-foot-equivalent units to 8.94 million TEUs because fewer empty containers were handled during the first half of the year, the port said.
