OOCL Belgium, a 225 meter (about 738 foot) container ship, has gotten stuck in heavy ice on the Strait of Belle Isle in eastern Canada on its way from Montreal to England, CBC News reports.
The ship called the Canadian Coast Guard for assistance yesterday, and icebreaker CCGS Henry Larsen is expected to arrive today.
“We’re looking at ice at least [27.6 inches] thick in that area,” said Paul Veber, CCG’s superintendent of ice operations in Atlantic Canada.
