Dachser Receives Envirotainer Accreditation to Handle Pharmaceuticals

ATLANTA (Dec. 15, 2011) - Dachser Transport of America Inc. (Dachser USA), the U.S. division of one of the world's leading global logistics services providers, today announced its parent company Dachser has been accredited by Envirotainer to handle pharmaceuticals via air freight in compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines. The accreditation initially applies to Dachser facilities in Germany, including Frankfurt, Munich, Münster-Osnabrück and Stuttgart. The company intends to expand its partnership with Envirotainer on a global level, offering dedicated life sciences logistics solutions.

Sweden-based Envirotainer is the market leader in the field of active temperature-controlled air freight containers and a world leader in secure cold chain logistics for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. The company offers its Qualified Envirotainer Provider (QEP) accreditation program exclusively to service providers that are capable of properly managing shipments using the Envirotainer container.

Pharmaceutical products increasingly have to be transported over long distances. To ensure they preserve their shelf life and efficacy, they must be maintained at precisely defined temperatures. "We, our customers and the authorities place the highest demands on the transport of these sensitive goods," said Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics.

In addition to active refrigerated transport of air and sea freight, Dachser offers passive temperature control solutions using validated insulated packaging. Whether active or passive cooling, a temperature record is kept during the entire transport process and automatically made available to the customer.

"Our key account team will be working with major pharmaceutical manufacturers and other life science businesses to create customized logistics solutions for international transport that link into the growing global Dachser network," said Frank Guenzerodt, President and CEO of Dachser USA.
