Plantation, Fla. and Fort Worth, Texas – December 2, 2009 – In the true spirit of giving, American Airlines Cargo and DHL Express, the world’s leading express delivery and logistics company, recently partnered to deliver premium steak dinners to U.S. troops based in Afghanistan. Working together, AA Cargo and DHL Express transported more than 5,000 steaks for troops to enjoy during the holiday season.

American supplied DHL Express with temperature-controlled containers – utilizing its new ExpediteTC(SM) service – which allows for the long-range transportation of perishable goods. DHL Express then transported the American Airlines Cargo containers to U.S. armed forces based in Afghanistan through its dedicated air network. In addition, 2,500 pounds of Dallas Cowboys football jerseys and other sports apparel, donated by the Cowboys, were provided to the troops.

“Through our ongoing partnership, we have been able to pool our resources – working through the complicated logistics of transporting supplies to remote areas of Afghanistan,” said Dave Brooks, President – AA Cargo. “We extend special thanks to DHL Express for their very generous support and cooperation, not only on this mission, but on other missions in which we have partnered with great success.”

“As specialists in international shipping, we’re proud to leverage our extensive global network in support of our brave U.S. servicemen and women to deliver this much-deserved taste of home,” said Red Alexander, Vice President of Aviation, DHL Express. “The logistics of getting freshly-frozen food product to a war-zone in a desert environment is astounding, and as a company that is known for its ability to deliver to the most remote areas of the world, it’s an honor to leverage DHL’s expertise for such a worthy mission.”

In July, American Airlines employees raised money through the “Kick-Start a Dream” program to purchase more than 1,100 soccer balls to send to U.S. Marines in Afghanistan. The Marines handed out the soccer balls to children in Afghanistan, which helped in the troops’ mission to further their goodwill in the country. DHL Express and AA Cargo coordinated the complex shipping details to ensure the balls reached the Marines.
