ANA Cargo Tonnage Grows in September

International cargo volume at Japan’s All Nippon Airways edged up 0.8 percent year-over-year in September in a slight recovery after ANA reported its first freight decline in two years the month before.

The growth left cargo tonnage at ANA up 3.9 percent in the first six months of the fiscal year that started April 1.

Much of the increase in ANA’s cargo volume in recent months apparently came as the carrier grabbed market share from struggling rival Japan Airlines, which stopped operating its own freighter flights at the end of October 2010.

Meanwhile, JAL said its international cargo volume dropped for the 16th successive month in September on a year-on-year basis, plummeting 51.6 percent to 18,686 tons.
