WEST GERMAN URGES MORE TIES WITH JAPAN

West German Upper House Speaker Bernhard Vogel called Wednesday for stronger economic ties between his country and Japan.

The European legislator said he discussed encouraging more West German firms to set up offices in Japan during meetings with top government officials.We will work to get medium-sized firms to set up plants in Japan, he told reporters. While large industries have been successful in doing business in Japan, medium-sized firms need some government assistance and we will continue to support them. Mr. Vogel also said his government is trying to encourage Japanese firms to set up plants in West Germany.

In view of strengthening relationships among countries of the European Community - a very big and important market of 320 million people, bigger than the American market - is being prepared for Japan, he said.

Mr. Vogel is visiting Japan at the invitation of Masaaki Fujita, chairman of the upper house of Japan's Parliament.
