Class 8 Truck Orders Continue Upward Trend

Net orders for Class 8 trucks totaled just over 23,200 units in April, up 36 percent year-over-year, remaining above 20,000 units for a seventh consecutive month and reaching the second highest volume in 16 months, according to ACT Research’s State of the Industry report, which covers Classes 5 through 8 vehicles for the North American market.

Medium-duty net orders totaled 16,740 units, the best volume in six months and the second best in 26 months.

Year-to-date, Class 8 orders bound for the U.S., Canada and Mexico continued to trend above levels in the same period last year, said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s president and senior analyst, in a written statement. He noted that demand from Mexico is particularly strong.

“Class 8 cancellations remained in record low territory in April, which is a positive indicator for stronger demand,” Vieth said.
