TNT Post Group, responding to the rapid growth of competitors in international logistics, bought Sweden-based freight forwarding power Wilson Logistics Group for $308 million.

The acquisition gives the parent of the TNT international express, mail and contract logistics businesses its first major presence in global forwarding, giving the Netherlands-based company new ability to offer a broader range of "one-stop shop" logistics services.

It follows the rapid international expansion of rivals DHL, UPS and FedEx, who have consolidated large-scale acquisitions under a single corporate umbrella and are seeking to sell shippers on an array of services that may include anything from small parcels to global contract logistics and forwarding. DHL''s consolidation under Deutsche Post World Net includes the former Danzas and AEI forwarding empires and UPS Supply Chain Solutions is a multibillion dollar operation that includes the former Fritz Cos. forwarder.

"By acquiring Wilson''s freight forwarding capabilities, TNT will be able too offer its existing contract logistics clients the full array of supply chain management services, now including air freight, sea freight and combined sea/air freight," TPG said in a statement.

Wilson Group is one of Europe''s leading independent forwarders, with offices in 28 countries and gross revenue last year of about $858 million.
