S. AFRICA GETS NOD TO SEEK EXPORT CREDITS

President Bush said Wednesday that South Africa had made significant progress in ending apartheid and authorized the Export-Import Bank to consider requests for loan guarantees from the Pretoria government.

President Bush issued a presidential order finding "that significant progress toward the elimination of apartheid has been made in South Africa."Under the order, the government may apply for loan guarantees for the

purchase of goods entering South Africa, a White House spokesman said.

The announcement was made in Knoxville, where President Bush was addressing community and business leaders.
