Railroad Rage

Railroad Rage

On my way to work this morning, as I was stopped at a grade crossing by a slow-moving freight train, I contemplated the continuing series of ''nosebleed high'' freight rate increases to which we have fallen victim, along with the extortive fuel surcharge scams imposed upon us by the railroads.

While waiting for the cross arm to lift, I noticed that many of the rail cars were gaily decorated with graffiti and I wondered when the railroads will hit us with a Fine Art Surcharge for using this equipment.

A more serious question might involve railroad security.

If the common artisan is allowed enough time to complete his masterpiece, close enough to touch rolling stock, many of which may be carrying potentially disastrous materials, what damage could less aesthetic, criminal-minded characters do in that same venue?
