SOO LINE ANNOUNCES A DRAMATIC UPSWING

Soo Line Corp. reported net earnings of $4.3 million, or 46 cents a share, on revenue of $151.1 million in the 1987 fourth quarter.

This marks a dramatic turnaround from the 1986 fourth quarter when the company lost $38.1 million on revenue of $150.1 million. The 1986 results included a $73 million charge from labor and equipment reductions.The company, 55 percent of which is owned by CP Rail, operates Soo Line railroad. The fourth quarter results allowed Soo to narrow its yearly loss to just $8.5 million on revenue of $613.1 million in 1987. A year ago, Soo lost $43.3 million on revenue of $631.8 million.
