One of the world’s largest privately-held operators of marine terminals, SSA handles over 110 million tons of conventional cargo worldwide each year in more than 250 locations around the world. SSA-managed marine terminals handle virtually every category of dry bulk commodity, including forest products, grain, steel, fruit, pulp, mineral ores, seafood, heavy machinery, yachts, and project cargo. SSA’ s parent company is Seattle-based Carrix, Inc., which also owns Tideworks Technology and Rail Management Services, also based in Seattle. Their operations: -- Rail Management Services (RMS) is one of the largest rail yard operators in the world. It provides on-dock and near-dock rail access for smooth inland connections; and contracts with all major U.S. Class 1 railroads, providing comprehensive intermodal services including trucking services, lift-on/ lift-off, auto ramp equipment and trailer maintenance and repair -- Tideworks Technology provides cost-effective, reliable terminal operating systems and graphical planning solutions for marine and intermodal terminal operations around the world. Its software enables terminal operators to improve vessel, terminal and gate productivity, thus saving them time and improving their throughput. Another division of SSA provides comprehensive logistical services for the finished vehicle & RoRo supply chain, for all kinds of RoRo vehicles, including military vehicles.
SSA Marine said truckers who participate in free flow drayage in West Coast ports such as Oakland (above) consistently achieve turn times of 15 to 20 minutes, compared with an hour or longer in conventional operations.
