Canada, California Ports Grow West Coast Market Share
West Coast container ports experienced a decline in year-over-year traffic in the second quarter of 2013. Overall throughput to major West Coast ports in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada fell 2.3 percent from 6,114,834 20-foot-equivalent containers in second quarter 2012 to 5,975,881 TEUs in second quarter 2013. Market shares of major Pacific Northwest and Mexican ports were down on the North American West Coast this quarter compared to the year prior. However, ports in Canada and California saw their shares climb in this market.
