P&G UNIT, LEDERLE TEAM UP TO PROMOTE HYPERTENSION DRUG

Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals and Lederle Laboratories said Monday they would work together in research and sales efforts for Ziac, a prescription

drug used to control hypertension.

Lederle, a division of American Cyanamid Co. based in Wayne, N.J., developed the drug to address dose-related side effects that may be associated with diuretic and beta-blocker therapy.Under terms of the agreement, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals and Lederle will share in costs of education, research and sales programs for Ziac.

Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals is owned by Procter & Gamble Co., a Cincinnati-based consumer products company with $30.4 billion in worldwide sales for the fiscal year ended June 30.
