Paying Freight

Paying Freight

I enjoyed reading your article on freight payment companies ("Taking it to the Bank," Oct. 29). I think, however, the closing paragraphs of the article might have sent a message that is not entirely correct.

Both Mr. Langer and Mr. Nelson seemed to be suggesting, and you wrote, that freight bill payment companies that are not affiliated with banks are "suspect." Both these gentlemen are aware that there are several very credible companies in this business that are not affiliated with banks.

The reason freight bill companies failed several years ago was that they did not know how to manage money, were dishonest, or both. It had nothing to do with whether they were owned by a bank.
