OECD SEEN LIKELY TO AGREE ON INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development are likely to reach an agreement at their meeting late this month on equal direct investment opportunities, a Japanese Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday.

The OECD Committee on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises is holding talks in Paris this week, discussing the details of a proposal on non-discriminatory direct investment opportunities in member countries. The proposal will be submitted to a ministerial meeting scheduled for May 30-31, the official said.At a recent CIME meeting, participants came closer to an agreement on the proposal that would give domestic companies and their foreign counterparts the same investment opportunities in such areas as taxation and government subsidies.
