Kecskemét, Hungary, June 18, 2012 - The new B-Class of Mercedes-Benz is, besides in Rastatt, Germany, also in production in Kecskemét, Hungary. Kuehne + Nagel has been contracted with the material supply of body shop and the final assembly line.

As part of the production logistics, Kuehne + Nagel is handling the material inbound, operating supplier and production storage areas as well as picking and feeding the production line with the help of forklifts and routed material trains.

The production supply is supported by the electronic kanban system, to ensure a timely and demand-driven allocation of the required components to the production lines. In addition to this traditional logistics system, further materials are delivered just-in-sequence (JIS). Kuehne Nagel is fully involved in the logistics planning process of Mercedes-Benz and provides its know-how during the planning and operation.

We are delighted to support the production logistics of the Mercedes-Benz plant Kecskemét with our flexibility and experience of more than 20 years of business in Hungary. Being fully integrated in the plant’s logistics concept from the start shows the confidence in our ability to make an important contribution to the optimal supply of the Mercedes-Benz plant, says Kai Olschner, Director of Operations, Kuehne Nagel Eastern Europe. “The initial phase was very successful and we will continue to develop and improve the production logistics processes for Mercedes-Benz.”
