PONTIAC EXPANDS REBATE PLAN

Pontiac is offering $500 cash rebates on its $6,399, Korean-built Pontiac LeMans and, for those buying their first new car, an additional $600 discount, the General Motors Corp. division said.

Pontiac said Tuesday it will offer the $500 rebate on all LeMans delivered through April 30.The first-time buyer program also offers $600 discounts to first-time buyers of the Sunbird, Grand Am, Fiero and some Firebird models and expires Sept. 30.

Also on Tuesday, Ford Motor Co. announced it was extending its incentive campaign until May 11. The program offers rebates of up to $1,000 on nine car models and up to $500 on seven trucks.

Even though our combined car and truck sales during January and February increased 26 percent over the year-ago period, the incentive program is being extended to keep our dealers in a competitive position, said Robert Rewey, Ford vice president for sales.
