Pacific Gulf Marine adds ro-ro vessel

Pacific Gulf Marine said it will manage and operate a fifth car carrier for American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier, a U.S. flag ro-ro operator.

The ship is currently operating under the name Takamine but will be renamed Freedom upon its re-flagging to U.S. registry this month. It was built in 1997 and has a capacity of 5,890 cars or 803 trucks, and can handle other ro-ro, project and heavy lift cargoes.

The vessel will operate in the U.S. East Coast to North Europe trade lane beginning this month. New Orleans-based PGM has 13 ships under management, including some operated for the Maritime Administration and Patriot Shipping LLC, said Todd B. Johnson, chief executive.
