Management changes for The Journal of Commerce

NEWARK, N.J. -- Commonwealth Business Media, parent of The Journal of Commerce and The Journal of Commerce Online, has announced a number of management promotions, effective immediately.

Peter Tirschwell has been appointed as vice president for the Magazine Group. In this position, he will have day-to-day responsibility for the Group's eight magazines, including The Journal of Commerce, Shipping Digest, Florida Shipper, Gulf Shipper, Pacific Shipper, Canadian Sailings, Air Cargo World and Traffic World.

Tirschwell will retain the title of editorial director for the Magazine Group.

"Peter has clearly demonstrated to me and the senior management team the ability to analyze, grow and develop a dynamic organization," said Alan Glass, chairman, president and chief executive of Commonwealth Business Media. "He is richly deserving of this new set of responsibilities."

Deputy Editor Joseph Bonney has been promoted to editor of The Journal of Commerce. Chris Brooks, formerly special reports editor, has been named managing editor for The JoC Shipper Group, responsible for production.

Stuart Chirls, web editor for The Journal of Commerce Online, will now add the same responsibilities for all of the JoC Shipper Group titles.

Marsha Salisbury, research editor for The Journal of Commerce, will take on the position as research editor for all of the JoC Shipper Group titles.

Bonney and Chirls report to Tirschwell, while Brooks and Salisbury report to Bonney.

In related news, Noreen Murray has been appointed to the position of associate group publisher for the JoC Shipper Group, which will now include Canadian Sailings as part of its product offering. Murray will continue to she will continue to be responsible for the advertising sales and marketing strategy and will have added responsibility for subscription revenue activity working with Circulation Director Joe DiMarino. The recently acquired Compass North America Seaports Publishing Group will also become part of this group.

Also, The Journal of Commerce Conference Group will now become part of the Magazine Group.

Seaports Publisher George Mihaiu and Canadian Sailings Publisher Joyce Hammock will report to Murray. Murray will report directly to Tirschwell. Air Cargo World /Traffic World Publisher Steve Prince, and The Journal of Commerce Conferences Director Renee Jacobs will also report to Tirschwell.

In other news, Brendan McCahill Sr. has been promoted to president for the Port Import Export Reporting Service (PIERS) Information Group. McCahill joined PIERS, the electronic trade reporting service, as chief operating officer in November 2003. McCahill reports to Glass.

Amy Middlebrook, who has served as group publisher for CBM's Directory Group, has been promoted to vice president of the group. She also reports to Glass.
