Jacksonville port updates strategic plan

The Jacksonville Port Authority's Board of Directors approved changes today to the port's strategic plan and also modified its vision statement. The port authority said it has set six major goals that are important to their long-term success.

"The vision of the Jacksonville Port Authority is to be a major economic engine for Northeast Florida by continuing to be a premier diversified port in the Southeastern United States with connections to major trade lanes throughout the world," the agency said.

The strategic plan includes six goals: enhancing trade development, financial health, community awareness, personnel management, operations and port security, and reviewing potential opportunities in real estate development. The port authority said its board of directors approved measurable objectives for each goal.

The Port of Jacksonville set a revenue record in 2003, increased tonnage volumes, and attracted two major cruise lines, said the port authority's executive director, Rick Ferrin.
