House moves forward on dredging

The House appropriations and transportation committees have taken major steps to authorizing and funding Corps of Engineers dredging projects for 2003.

The House water resources and environment subcommittee on Tuesday approved the 2003 version of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) which authorizes Army Corps projects. The full transportation committee is expected to vote on the bill next week.

On Tuesday, the House Appropriations Committee approved a bill that includes $4.48 billion for Corps projects. The amount is $288 million more than the administration's budget request, but $156 million below fiscal 2003.
