GERMAN CLASSIFICATION SOCIETY ESTABLISHES CYPRUS COMMITTEE

Germanischer Lloyd, the German classification society, has established a committee in Cyprus, made up of leading representatives of industry and authorities in that country.

Hans G. Payer, a member of the executive board of Germanischer Lloyd, said at the inaugural meeting of the new body that Cyprus was especially significant to the company because of the large number of shipping companies and ship management firms represented there. The committee's goal, Mr. Payer said, is to strengthen Germanischer Lloyd's presence within the Cypriot industry, with the main focus on the maritime sector, and to act as a forum for the exchange of views.
