Georgia tonnage soars

The Georgia Ports Authority said 1.1 million container tons moved across the state's docks in April, a 15.2 percent increase from the same month a year ago.

The agency also said the total number of TEUs exported from Georgia increased by 24.6 percent.

A total of 59,997 TEUs were exported from the Port of Savannah as compared to 48,141 TEUs last year, as forest products such as liner board and fluff pulps, as well as kaolin clay surged in recent months.
