DIRECT CONTAINER OPENS WAREHOUSE

Direct Container Line, a Southern California-based non-vessel-operating common carrier, opened a warehouse facility in Manila to expedite cargo movements in the Philippines.

"The major advantage for consignees is much better control over pilferage and delays while reducing the red tape often experienced with LCL (less-than- containerload) shipments to the Philippines," said Michael J. Sinclair, DCL president. The new facility is owned and managed by Jardine Davies Transport Services Inc., DCL's agent in the Philippines. Previously, DCL's shipments were unpacked at a public warehouse in Manila.

Mr. Sinclair anticipates steady growth in the cargo volume moving to the Philippines. In the first quarter of 1990, the company's shipments increased 45 percent over the same period last year.
