Lock Repairs in Germany to Impact Hapag-Lloyd’s Baltic Services

The large locks at the western end of the canal in Brunsbuettel, Germany, have to be repaired and will be out of service for about two to three weeks, authorities have said in a German-language announcement by the German Waterways Authorities.

As a result, vessels with a length of more than 125 meters (about 410 feet) cannot pass the canal at present.

The incident will affect Hapag-Lloyd’s Baltic services, the ocean carrier said, as well as third-party feeders. Transit times to and from Baltic ports via Hamburg and Bremerhaven, Germany, will increase by about 12 hours. However, Hapag-Lloyd will continue to sail on a weekly basis as scheduled and does not expect any disruption of services.
