CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The dredging of the channels leading into the Port of Charleston has been completed.

The final leg of dredging to 45 feet covered the portion of the channel up to the North Charleston Marine Terminal which is served by Evergreen Marine Corp and Mediterranean Shipping Co. Charleston has five marine terminals.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Monday that the project had been completed. Port officials had not expected the dredging to be done until late summer or early fall.

Dredging of the other portions of the harbor were completed last year.
