Calls, cargo off at Oman ports

Cargo volume handled at the ports of Mina Sultan Qaboos and Salalah in Oman dropped by 3.97 percent to 512,700 metric tons in January and February compared with 533,900 tons during the first two months last year.

The Ministry of National Economy in Muscat attributed the overall decline to Salalah, where cargo throughput fell 39.2 percent to 120,900 tons at the end of February against 198,900 tons a year ago.

A total of 385 vessels called at the two ports during the first two months this year, down by 1.8 percent, from 392 ships the previous year. A total o f277 ships called Mina Sultan Qaboos, off 9.2 percent, while calls increased 24.1 percent at Salalah.
