Bangladesh to deploy box scanners

Bangladesh will install container scanners at its main port of Chittagong by December to deter smuggling and terror threats.

The scanners are expected to cost $25 million to 30 million each.

Local reports said at least one machine will be online by the end of the year.

The move to ramp up container security follows the recent signing of a memorandum of intent between Bangladesh and the United States aimed at protecting American interests.
