MALAYSIA JULY INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT ROSE 6.2 PERCENT FROM A YEAR AGO

Malaysia's industrial production index rose 6.2 percent year-on-year in July, the statistics department said.

The index in July was 170.8 points against 160.8 points in July 1992.The index rose 9.6 percent from the January-to-July period against the same 1992 period, compared with a 10.5 percent rise in the January-to-June period, the department said in a release through the national Bernama news agency.

Output in manufacturing rose 8.8 percent year-on-year, to 192.2 points

from 170.1 points in July 1992.

Electricity output was 13.0 percent higher year-on-year, at 192.3 points in July against 170.1 points a year ago.

The mining sector suffered a decline of 2.2 percent, to 127.2 points in July from 130.1 points a year ago.
