McLean was ahead of his time

In the Sept. 29 Journal of Commerce, you correctly noted the industry's response to Malcom McLean's Econships, the first container vessels larger than 2,000 FEUs. Twenty years ago the naysayers called them "Malcom's canoes" and said they were just "too big." The efficacy of many of Mr. McLean's innovations became apparent in shorter time periods. It just took a little longer time for people to see what he saw long ago with Econships and the even larger container vessels they engendered.
