Gulf Shrimp Coalition Seeks Relief From Subsidized Imports

The Coalition of Gulf Shrimp Industries has filed petitions with the U.S. government seeking relief from subsidized shrimp imports from seven countries — China, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The petitions request countervailing duties to offset unfair trade advantages held by these countries and document more than 100 trade programs benefitting the foreign shrimp producers. The petitions will be investigated by the U.S. International Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce, with final determinations expected in the second half of 2013.
