NYK Connects Its Largest Solar Energy Generating System to Power Grid

TOKYO — NYK Trading Corporation, an NYK Group company (head office: Tokyo; president: Motoo Igawa), has connected NYK’s largest solar energy generating system to the community’s power grid.

The 500-kilowatt system, which is located at a warehouse owned by Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. in the U.S. state of New Jersey, consists of 6,246 CIS* panels made by Solar Frontier K.K. (head office: Tokyo; president: Shigeaki Kameda). The system was installed by Toshiba International Corporation, which is based in the U.S., and is expected to generate about 650,000 kWh of electricity per year.

The system will make use of clean solar energy to power the warehouse, and any surplus electricity will be sold to local power companies. This project is eligible for Solar Renewable Energy Certificates offered by the State of New Jersey as well as a subsidy from the U.S. federal government, and will help promote the use of renewable energy sources.
