ATLANTA, Dec. 5, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vermont-based A.N. Deringer, Inc., one of the nation's largest privately-held customs brokerage 3PLs, is reaping the rewards of a successful implementation of Manhattan Associates' (Nasdaq:MANH - News) Manhattan SCALE(TM) (Supply Chain Architected for Logistics Execution) suite in 10 warehouses over a 12 month period. Since the implementation, Deringer has transformed its paper-based environment, increased cross-docking orders by 33 percent and increased its online customers from 12 to 250 organizations.

With 18 warehouses and 33 offices, Deringer operates along the northern U.S. border from Maine to Blaine, Wash., and in key air and ocean ports across the country.

The system we had just didn't have the functionality for us to compete in today's environment, said Steve Burrington, supply chain manager, A.N. Deringer, Inc. Our customers want information as fast as they can get it. We needed a robust, intuitive system that was easily adaptable, easy to configure and easy to train our customers and employees to use.

Deringer implemented the Manhattan SCALE suite of solutions and began a company-wide rollout in May 2009 amid some daunting obstacles. All of our warehouses were sitting on separate servers so everybody had their own environment, Burrington said. When we went to Manhattan SCALE, we moved to a global environment, where when one person does something, it affects everybody else in the system. It was a major culture shift for Deringer because the company prides itself on entrepreneurship and independence. It brought a lot of structure to what we do.

Today, approximately 25 percent of Deringer's orders are entered manually in the warehouses, while 75 percent are either sent electronically or through an extension that Deringer and Manhattan developed together called eShipPartner(R) Cross Dock.

With an expanding business base, Deringer executives are optimistic. What we want to do with freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution is to drive half of our business through the warehouses and the other half through our core competency which is Custom House Brokerage, Burrington said. We've got a lot of work to do to get there, but we're building the road map to do that, and this application is instrumental in the process.
