The U.S. Superfund Law has been enacted with the intention of creating a fund of $8.5 billion for cleaning up toxic wastes.

The fund will comprise $6.7 billion in taxes, $1.25 billion in general

revenues and the balance from interest and recovery from potentially responsible parties.

Clarkson has been advised the tax will be imposed for five years from March at between $0.0020-$0.0025 per gallon, approximately 50c to 60c per metric ton.

Some suppliers are absorbing this when quoting an original price, and this should be borne in mind when fixing U.S. business as there is little consistency in charging this tax.
