INCREASE IN INCOMETransamerica Corp. reported an increase in operating income to $109.3 million, or $1.32 a share, for the third quarter of 1993, up from $87.4 million, or $1.04 a share, for the same period of 1992.

Net income for the 1993 third quarter was up to $138.9 million, or $1.70 a share, from $87.4 million, or $1.04 a share, last year. The insurance holding company's revenues increased slightly to $1.3 billion in the third quarter

from $1.2 billion for the 1992 third quarter. The company does not report a combined ratio.

Transamerica said Monday it plans to sell its remaining 27 percent stake in TIG Holdings Inc., a New York City property and casualty insurance holding company, through an option under previous agreements tied to TIG's initial public offering in March. TIG reported third-quarter operating income of $17.1 million, or 29 cents a share, for the third quarter of 1993 from a loss of $34.5 million, or 56 cents a share last year.
