ITT HARTFORD REPORTS

THIRD-QUARTER PROFIT

HARTFORD, Conn. - ITT Hartford reported $142 million in net income in the third quarter, compared with a net loss of $592 million last year following restructuring and hurricane claim expenses.

Third quarter earnings included $139 million of investment income and $18 million worth of capital gains from property and casualty operations, compared with $333 million during the third quarter last year.

Revenue for ITT Hartford's Insurance Group rose to $2.2 billion from $1.97 billion in the third quarter of 1992. ITT Hartford doesn't report combined ratio for mid-year figures.

Hartford reported operating income of $21 million in the third quarter of 1993. The insurer did not break out this figure in the year earlier period.

NAC RE SEES INCOME

JUMP TO $7.3 MILLION

GREENWICH, Conn. - NAC Re Corp. reported operating income for the second quarter, of 1993 at $7.3 million, or 40 cents per share, from a loss of $14 million, or a loss of 77 cents a share for the same period in 1992.

The reinsurance company reported an increase in quarterly revenues to $104.7 million in 1993 from $93.2 million in 1992. Net income in 1993 was $8.7 million, or 47 cents per share, in the third quarter from a net loss of $10.7 million, or a loss of 58 cents per share, for the same period last year.

NAC Re reported an improved combined ratio of 111.9 percent for the 1993 third quarter from 156.5 percent for 1992. A ratio above 100 means that for every premium dollar taken in, more than a dollar went for losses, expenses and commission. A ratio below 100 percent indicates an underwriting profit.
