INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT RISES 0.2 PERCENT IN ITALY

Italy's June industrial production rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent

from May and climbed an unadjusted annual 5.0 percent, national statistics institute ISTAT said Friday.

There were 22 working days in June - the same number as in June 1994.The June figures compare with May's revised 1.1 percent monthly seasonally adjusted fall (originally reported as a 1.2 percent fall) and a revised 6.5 percent unadjusted annual rise (originally reported as a 6.2 percent increase).

In the January-June period, industrial production rose an average 6.9 percent compared with the same period of last year.

ISTAT noted that the highest annual rise in June was registered in the machinery and mechanical instruments sector, up 16.3 percent.

Above-average increases were also recorded in the rubber and plastic materials sector (up 9.8 percent) and in the mineral mining sector (up 8.8 percent).

The consumer goods sector rose an annual 3.5 percent, the investment goods sector rose 4.3 percent, and the intermediate goods sector rose 10.0 percent.
