INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT FALLS IN JAPAN

Japan's industrial and mining production index was 94.6 (1990 equals 100) in September, down 5.0 percent from a year before, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry said Thursday.

The decline followed a 2.6 percent year-on-year fall in August.After seasonal adjustment, the September index stood at 92.1, up 1.5 percent from August.

Nonadjusted industrial output for the July to September period fell 4.0 percent from a year earlier, and the adjusted production for the same period declined 0.2 percent from the previous quarter.

MITI also said its survey showed producers expected output to fall 5.9 percent in October from September, after seasonal adjustment, and then to rise 3.4 percent in November.
