FORD NET ROSE 19 PERCENT IN QUARTER

Ford Motor Co.'s net income in the fourth quarter of 1987 was $932 million, up 19 percent from $785 million a year earlier.

Earnings were $1.87 a share, up from $1.50.Higher factory unit sales and cost efficiencies more than accounted for the improvement, Ford said. Offsetting those factors were higher marketing costs, continued weak economic conditions in Brazil and the start-up costs at Autolatina, Ford's joint venture with Volkswagen in Brazil and Argentina.

Worldwide dollar sales for the quarter were $18.758 billion compared with $16.262 billion in the 1986 quarter. Fourth-quarter unit sales were 1,547,000, up 58,000 units from last year.
